This issue plagues at least Excel 2008 and 2011, and possibly other versions. Basically, saving a file as comma separated values (csv) uses a carriage return r rather than a line feed as a newline. Way back before OS X, this was actually the correct Mac file ending, but after the move to be more unix-y, the correct line ending should be. Microsoft Excel inserts automatic page breaks based on the paper size, margin, settings, scale options, and the positions of any manual page breaks that you insert. To print a worksheet with the exact number of pages that you want, you can adjust the page breaks in the worksheet before you print it. Insert the line break. Hit the key combination Shift + Enter to create a line break. You will now be able to add content in the line right after the break. Notice that the cursor will not situate itself in the blank space where the break is when you click on the space. This is the line break.
